Today we celebrate Amelia Earhart Day, honoring on Today we celebrate Amelia Earhart Day, honoring one of the most influential aviators in history and a pioneer whose accomplishments continue to inspire generations of pilots and aviation enthusiasts.

Although many remember Earhart for her mysterious disappearance in 1937, her greatest legacy lies in what she achieved during her lifetime. In 1932, she became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, a feat that earned her the Distinguished Flying Cross and cemented her place among aviation's greatest trailblazers. She also set numerous speed and distance records, completed the first solo flight from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland, and continually pushed the boundaries of what aircraft—and the people who flew them—could accomplish.

Beyond her record-setting flights, Earhart was one of aviation's most passionate advocates. She encouraged young people to pursue careers in flight and championed opportunities for women in aviation, helping found and lead The Ninety-Nines, an international organization for licensed women pilots. She believed that advancing aviation required courage, curiosity, and a willingness to venture into the unknown.

At Yanks Air Museum, we celebrate Amelia Earhart not only as a record-setting pilot, but as one of the visionaries who helped shape the future of aviation and inspired countless others to look toward the horizon and ask, "What's next?"

✈️ Aviation Trivia: Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932—but can you name the aircraft she flew on that historic journey?

Fifty-seven years ago today, humanity took its fir Fifty-seven years ago today, humanity took its first steps onto another world... (well, technically a moon, and technically the first literal step would be 57 years ago tomorrow, but that's what happens when you arrive close to midnight)

When Apollo 11's Lunar Module Eagle touched down in the Sea of Tranquility, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin accomplished something that only a generation earlier had seemed impossible. While the moment is remembered for Armstrong's first step onto the lunar surface, it was also the culmination of decades of aviation innovation.

The Lunar Module itself represented an extraordinary engineering achievement. Designed solely to operate in the vacuum of space, Eagle became the first crewed aircraft to land on another celestial body and safely return its crew to orbit.

At Yanks Air Museum, we're celebrating not only the aircraft that shaped aviation history, but also the spirit of innovation and exploration that carried humanity beyond Earth's atmosphere, with our Space Day event Friday and Saturday! You can listen to engineer Lovell Stoddard share insights about the Apollo program this Friday at 10:30 am, and/or join us a day after too for a presentation by Frank Dowens, who's bringing a Mars Rover, rover wheels, and other space artifacts for the kiddos to interact with!

🚀 Aviation Trivia: Before becoming the first person to walk on the Moon, Neil Armstrong made history in another iconic aircraft. Can you name the experimental rocket plane he famously flew to the edge of space?

Just last week was the birthday of a very special Just last week was the birthday of a very special employee over here in our shop who has been so instrumental to the museum's success that we just have to give him a #SpotlightSaturday shoutout!

Keiichi "Tony" Furukawa was born July 12th, 1953, in Japan, where his obsession with aviation first began during a high school project building a human-powered aircraft under the tutelage of instructor Kenichi Maeda. In 1977, he migrated to the United States at 24 years old, arriving in Kansas with only a small amount of cash and a briefcase full of pictures of his work in aviation. There, he met the Stolp family at an aviation convention and moved on to California to manufacture parts for their aircraft kits.

He soon became immersed in the aviation restoration field, most notably bringing a Fokker D7 back to flying condition after a complete ground-up restoration, and even restoring a Nieuport 28 with the original Gnome rotary engine. In 1989, he met our founder, Charles Nichols, and began a working relationship that would last over 30 years. Tony would complete dozens of aircraft for the Yanks collection, including the Ryan B-1 Brougham, the Waco CG4A Hadrian Glider, and, most recently, the airworthy UC-64A Norduyn Norseman.

You may know him for all those many impressive projects, but here at Yanks, he's treasured for even more. Having just turned 73, Tony has taken his rightful place as the wise grandfather of the shop, keeping the young bucks in check. Dave and Casey know better than to challenge Tony's expertise, or they will feel his wrath. His lightning speed karate chop would knock Casey to the floor or his horse kick could throw Dave through a wall! All this to be accomplished while holding his lunch in one hand… and never leaving his comfy chair of course.

That man can do nearly anything at his table and chair, no fancy equipment or shop required.

At the end of the day, his favorite quote is "Keep Going," and what keeps him going better than his beloved daughter, Mona? He's a man of few words, but we highly recommend hearing more about his incredible life, if you ever get the chance to say hi.
