On January 27th 1957, the last North American Aviation P-51 Mustangs in squadron service with the United States Air Force were retired. The last P-51s were used by the 167th Fighter Bomber Squadron, West Virginia Air National Guard.

Did you know that the F-4 Phantom II originally had a different name? On today's date in 1962, the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation delivered the first F-110A Spectre to the U.S. Air Force. The Air Force retired its last operational F-4s from service in December 2004, almost 42 years after the first Phantoms were delivered.

Do you know why they dropped the F-110 Spectre designation in favor of the F-4 Phantom II?

Our YKS-7 has been sitting for more than 20 years, and we’ve been working hard to get it back in the air! After finding a cracked piston ring we pulled the engine down a little further than planned. We’re sending the cylinders out for inspection and rebuilding it the right way before it goes all the way back together. This won’t affect the restoration timeline much since we still have some work to do on the instrument panel.

When we needed 115-degree dimple dies for the P-47's wings, we couldn’t just order them. Scott’s machining a set from scratch, dialing in the angles and diameters before cutting them in steel and heat-treating them so the restoration can move forward.
