The US Navy must always be in a state of fleet air-defense readiness. Navy Fighter pilots, gunners, and missile crews look to the BQM-126 to simulate cruise missile or enemy aircraft attack. Although similar to its predecessor the new H tail allowed for easier carriage and launch from an aircraft.

This drone is made mostly of composites, is cost effective and reusable. Capable of precise 7g turns to 180 degrees, it can be launched from air, land or ship. It has autopilot and radio control (RC) systems, a rocket booster, parachute, onboard saltwater protection system and it floats. It boasts a reliability rating of 96% and an average 25-flight lifecycle.
